San Diego Wild Animal Park
The San Diego Wild Animal Park comprises 1,800 acres located five miles east of Escondido. It was started as a breeding facility for the San Diego Zoo's larger mammals. Today there are over 2,500 animals here and also 250 species of exotic plants.

Kit Carson Park - South Escondido
The park sits in a valley that is approximately five miles west of where Kit Carson fought in the Battle of San Pasqual. A historical monument commemorating the battle is located on Mule Hill, one mile southeast of the park. One hundred acres of the park have been developed and 185 acres have been preserved as natural habitat. Park features include several hiking trails, 5-acre arboretum, ball fields, tennis courts and 3 ponds.
