The largest amphibious training facility in the nation, Camp Pendleton is home to 35,000 active duty Marines and their dependents of the U.S. 1st Marine Division and related units.

This San Diego beach features swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing and picnicking. The large bluff-top campground is very popular, especially in summer. There area also three major wetland habitats.

Founded in February 1986 - the California Surf Museum presents standing displays of surfing equipment and photographs. Every six months it introduces a new feature exhibit highlighting one of the pioneering legends of the surfing world. The museum also retails surfing-related merchandise.

Oceanside Museum of Art - OMA - Downtown Oceanside

A cultural jewel located in downtown Oceanside in an historic Irving Gill designed building. In addition to eye-opening art, OMA offers art instruction at the OMA-School of Art, chamber music in the museum galleries as part of the Pier View Way Concert Series, bus tours to other art museums, lectures, workshops and museum tours. When Phase One and Two are complete OMA will be comprised of three joined buildings: the venerable 1934 Irving Gill designed Oceanside City Hall, the 1929 Gill designed Fire Station #1, and the Frederick Fisher designed central Pavilion.

Oceanside Pier
One of the longest piers on the west coast - very popular for fishing and there is a Ruby's Restaurant on the end. At the base of the pier is a bandshell which is the site of special concert events. (800) 350-7873 for event info.

World Body Surfing Championships [3rd Weekend of AUG] - Approximately 350-400 bodysurfers from around the world compete in their respective age divisions for trophies and prizes in the surf adjacent to the Pier.
Labor Day Pier Swim - Annual event since 1930, over 400 swimmers hit the water for a 1-mile swim race out and around the pier.

California Coastal National Monument
Established in 2000, the CCNM runs the entire length of the California coast and encompasses thousands of BLM administered islands, rocks, exposed reefs, and pinnacles above mean high tide. These provide forage and breeding grounds for significant populations of coastal birds and sea mammals.
