San Diego Wild Animal Park
The San Diego Wild Animal Park comprises 1,800 acres located
five miles east of Escondido. It was started as a breeding facility for
the San Diego Zoo's larger mammals. Today
there are over 2,500 animals here and also 250 species of exotic plants.

Battle Re-enactment held in early December;
Battle of San Pasqual : December 6, 1846; Mexican-American War;
Memorial to honor those who participated in the San Pasqual Battle of
the Mexican-American War that was fought at this spot in 1846. The
battle was fought between about 100 men each representing Californianos
defending for Mexico and the advanced contingent of Gen. Stephen Kearney's
US Army of the West and took place only shortly before the arrival of the
Mormon Battalion. Located on SR-78 about
two mileseast of Wild Animal Park, it includes visitors center, historical
trail, exhibits, picnic area and nature trails.
