Mark Twain set his story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Amador County", in the county.
Each year, the county hosts its County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, featuring a frog jumping contest, to celebrate the association with Twain's story.
The celebrated California red-legged frog, feared absent from the county by 1969, was rediscovered in 2003.
Amador Big Trees State Park - Arnold CA
Giant Sierra Redwood Groves
This grove includes Discovery Tree, the first giant sierra redwood noted in California.
The Park also houses two main campgrounds, picnic areas and hundreds of miles of established trails.

Mercer Caverns
Named for a gold prospector who discovered the caves around 1885 and filed a claim.
