Fort Tejon SHP (pop: 11,500) is a small city in Kern County, located between Bakersfield and Delano.
Fort Tejon is a restored U.S. Army Dragoon post dating back to 1854-64. The troops were responsible for the security of Southern California. Also home to the experimental U.S. Camel Corps - 34 camels that hauled supplies from San Antonio and help to survey the California-Nevada region. Museum onsite. There are restored adobes from the original fort and the park’s museum features exhibits on army life and local history. The park also has a number of beautiful 400 year-old valley oak trees. Living History depicting the daily life of the Fort in the 1850's, the Dragoon Era Program. These living history programs are held on the first saturday of each month. Surround yourself with the sounds, sights and colors of the past. Fort Tejon was also the site of a major California earthquake in 1857.
