Lebec (Pop: 1200) is one of several mountain communities located along the Tejon Pass in the Southwest corner of Kern County.

The Tejon Pass is a mountain pass (elev: 4160 ft) at the southwest end of the Tehachapi Mountains linking Southern to Central California and traversed by the Golden State (I-5) Freeway. It is also referred to as the grapevine. In 1858 the Butterfield Overland Mail stagecoach line ran through the pass. The Butterfield Overland was discontinued in 1861 but was replaced by the Telegraph Stage Line, which stopped at almost all the former stations, including Gorman's, where the horses were changed.

Fort Tejon State Historic Park
Restored U.S. Army Dragoon post dating back to 1854-64. The troops were responsible for the security of Southern California. Also home to the experimental U.S. Camel Corps. There are restored adobes from the original fort and the park’s museum features exhibits on army life and local history. The park also has a number of beautiful 400 year-old valley oak trees.
