    US Navy Blue Angeles - Winter Camp
    El Centro Naval Air Station
    The U.S. Navy's Precision Flight Demonstration was first organized in 1946. Each year it performs nearly 70 air shows at 33 locations in the U.S. and Canada, entertaining over 17 million spectators. While normally based in Pensacola Florida, their winter home is NAF El Centro where they can be seen (Jan-Mar) training pilots and new crew member where they do flight training over the Borrego Desert.

    Heber Dunes State Vehicle Recr Area - Heber CA

    343 acres area located south of El Centro. It is primarily used for off-road recreation, however, camping, picnicking, and baseball are also popular activities in the park.

    Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recr Area - East Borrego
    Location: SR-78, about 35 miles east of Julian or about 20 miles west of Highway 86. ; (760) 767-5391; State Parks Website
    42,000 acres of desert terrain, from below sea level to 400 foot elevations. It is a motorcycle, four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle, and dune buggy use area. The wash-and-ridge terrain includes a butte with dunes and a sand bowl, a blow-sand dune, springs and a camp on a former homestead site. The park has pay showers, picnic tables, shade ramadas, fire rings and a dump station available.

Adventure Tips Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

    600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the largest state park in the contiguous United States and voted the #1 state park in California by National Geographic. This area was first traversed by Spanish explorer Juan Batiste de Anza in 1774. Another 100 years would pass before the first settlers would come to stay and inhabit this area.     Visitors can traverse canyons full of desert palms, ancient pictographs, majestic cactus and early spring wildflowers.

    Hellhole Canyon - 3 mile hiking trail starts from just south of visitor center that goes up a desert wash past a small waterfall and grotto of maidenhair ferns and hummingbirds buzzing the ocotillo (best in Springtime).
    Tubb Canyon - Unmarked trailhead starts on Hwy S-22 at MM-11, southwest of Visitor Center. Easy 1.5 mile hike. Natural spring is a big draw for wildlife including bighorn sheep and a lot of jackrabbits.
