Borrego Springs (pop 2500, elev 580') is certainly one of the most scenic desert resort areas of California. The desert valleys are bordered by 9,000 foot mountain peaks. Located in the heart Borrego Valley and is widely recognized as the westernmost extention of the Great Sonoran Desert. Because summer temperatures usually exceed 100F degrees, most residents are seasonal. Borrego Springs is located about 85 miles northeast of San Diego, where San Diego County Highways S-3 and S-22 meet in Borrego Valley in southeastern California. Some have said that Borrego Springs is what Palm Springs was 50 years ago - peaceful, quiet, relaxing. There are no stoplights in Borrego.
Southern most of protected forest lands in California includes 430,000 acres of San Diego, Orange and Riverside divided into three distinct areas. Comprises of conifer woodlands and chaparral.
