    The Imperial County Historical Society was organized as the Imperial Valley Pioneers Society in 1928 to preserve the life histories of early settlers. While its name has since changed, its ongoing mission is still to preserve the unique development of the irrigated desert and the people who developed the area's modern history.

    The museum was founded in 1969 to educate the people about the desert. The museum's theme is human adaptation to arid lands. As archaeological knowledge of Imperial Valley has grown through the research of many scholars, so has the Imperial Valley College Desert Museum collection of artifacts which helps lead to a better understanding of arid living.

    Alford's Antique Car Museum

    The Alford Distributing Company family collection of antique cars. The collection is predominately American-Made cars such as Fords and Franklins. Imperial Valley memorabilia enhance the museum, which was started with the purchase of a Model “A” Ford for $5.00 many years ago. The cars you see in the museum are all in running condition and have been restored from the ground up to their original state. Most of them are taken out for use in local parades, community events and promotional activities. The museum is arranged in “Era Galleries” from the 1910’s to the 1950’s.

    US Navy Blue Angeles - Winter Camp
    El Centro Naval Air Station
    The U.S. Navy's Precision Flight Demonstration was first organized in 1946. Each year it performs nearly 70 air shows at 33 locations in the U.S. and Canada, entertaining over 17 million spectators. It serves as positive role models and goodwill ambassadors for the US Navy and Marine Corps. Currently the team flies six bright blue F/A-18 Hornets which seemlessly transition between various manuvers while flying at hundreds of miles per hour. This all-volunteer group consists of 16 officers and 110 enlisted crew. While normally based in Pensacola Florida, their winter home is NAF El Centro where they can be seen (Jan-Mar) training pilots and new crew members.

    343 acres area located south of El Centro. It is primarily used for off-road recreation, however, camping, picnicking, and baseball are also popular activities in the park.

    Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recr Area - East Borrego
    Location: SR-78, about 35 miles east of Julian or about 20 miles west of Highway 86. ; (760) 767-5391; State Parks Website
    42,000 acres of desert terrain, from below sea level to 400 foot elevations. It is a motorcycle, four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle, and dune buggy use area. The wash-and-ridge terrain includes a butte with dunes and a sand bowl, a blow-sand dune, springs and a camp on a former homestead site. The park has pay showers, picnic tables, shade ramadas, fire rings and a dump station available.
