Welcome to Lassen County
Lassen County (pop 33,800) is found in the northeastern region of California where the county seat is Susanville, the only incorporated city in the county. It was formed in 1864 following the two-day conflict known as the "Sagebrush War" that was sparked by uncertainties over the California border. The county namesake is former frontiersman and indian fighter Peter Lassen.

Lassen Volcano California
The last volcano to explode in California (in 1915) and today is a beautiful wilderness park, rich in wildlife
and active geothermal features. Includes many campgrounds and over 150 miles of hiking trails.
Susanville California
Susanville is the principle city and county seat of Lassen County.
It lies in the heart of the Northern California Sierra Mountains at 4,200 feet elevation.
Lassen Forest California
The Lassen Forest lies at the heart of one of the most fascinating areas of California, called the Crossroads.
Here the granite of the Sierra Nevada, the lava of the Cascades and the Modoc Plateau, and the sagebrush of the Great Basin meet and blend.

Modoc National Forest
Much of California's remote northeastern corner is included in the Modoc National Forest.
There are many mountains, lakes, meadows and significant wetlands here. The area
is also rich in wildlife and geological formations.
