Lassen County (pop 33,800) is found in the northeastern region of California where the county seat is Susanville, the only incorporated city in the county.
It was formed in 1864 following the two-day conflict known as the "Sagebrush War" that was sparked by uncertainties over the California border.
The county namesake is former frontiersman and indian fighter Peter Lassen.
