    Point Reyes is a 70,000 acre region preserved as a mix light-agricultural and recreational area. Planning included the continuation of the historic ranching and oyster farming along with the preservation of the grasslands and open scenic vistas. It is also home to a wide range of wildlife and over 1000 species of vegetation.

    Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) chronicles two hundred years of history, from the Native American culture, the Spanish Empire frontier, the California Gold Rush, the evolution of American coastal fortifications, and the growth of urban San Francisco.

    Muir Woods National Monument protects that the most noteworthy stand of Old Growth Coastal Redwoods located in the San Francisco Bay Area. This 554-acre preserve is located alongside the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

    One hundred and fifty million years ago ancestors of redwood and sequoia trees grew throughout the United States. Today, the Sequoia sempervirens can be found only in a narrow, cool coastal belt from Monterey, California, in the south to Oregon in the north.

    This outstanding 2570-foot mountain peak overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Gate is home to redwood groves and oak woodlands. Coastal Miwok Indians lived in the area for thousands of years before Europeans arrived in 1770.

    The day-use park features four gently sloping, surf-free beaches, protected from winds by Inverness Ridge, the backbone of the Point Reyes Peninsula. The park has hiking trails and is a popular place for picnicking, swimming, clamming and boating.

    With beautiful views overlooking the bay, this is a lovely spot for a wedding, filming, or large gatherings.

    In the early 1870s, Nate Stinson and Captain Easkoot, both started in competition to lure early California tourists to their vacation campsites on the beach here.     Additionally, the heavily wooded ridgeline overlooking this beach town is home to popular hiking trails, some which ascend to Mt. Tamalpais.
