Modesto (Pop: 210,000) is the county seat of Stanislaus County in California. The city has experienced strong growth in recent years due to its proximity to major business centers and agriculture.
This city was founded in 1870 as a railroad stop on the line between Los Angeles and Sacramento by William Ralston, the financier of many early projects in California.
