Modesto (Pop: 210,000) is the county seat of Stanislaus County in California. The city has experienced strong growth in
recent years due to its proximity to major business centers and agriculture. However this area is plagued by some of the
the worst smog levels in the country.
This city was founded in 1870 as a railroad stop on the line between Los Angeles and Sacramento by William Ralston, the financier
of many early projects in California.
