The Mojave Desert occupies a significant portion of southeastern California and overlaps slightly into neighboring Nevada and Arizona. Its boundaries are generally defined by the presence of the Joshua trees, considered an indicator species for this desert.

While most of the Mojave desert is sparsely populated, there are several large cities there. The largest is Las Vegas, while other large cities include Lancaster, California and Victorville, California.

Death Valley National Park

Joshua Tree National Park
Nature preserve covering over 793,000 acres of the Mojave Desert country in Eastern California. The rugged terrain is famous for the many unusual plants found here including Joshua trees, cactus, ocotillo, smoke treess, palo verdes, pinon pins, yucca plants. The best time to visit is early spring when a big array of desert wildflowers reach full bloom.
