The forest is the largest in California with a diverse landscape ranging from 1,000 to 14,162 feet. The 2.1 million acre forest encompasses five wilderness areas,
hundreds of mountain lakes and 6,278 miles of streams and rivers.
Pivotal in the economical, tourism and recreational aspects of Northern California, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest is a land of breathtaking beauty and a place for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors.
The main branch of the Trinity River is a designated Wild and Scenic River which runs through the forest.
A 154 mile section of the Pacific Crest Trail runs in an east - west direction across the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
The Trinity Heritage and the Trinity River Scenic Byways are two scenic drives in the area.

Climbing Mt Shasta

Mount Shasta - 14,179 ft, is a stratovolcano - the highest volcano and
5th highest mountain in California.
Although there are a number of cross-country routes to the top of the mountain,
Avalanche Gulch and Clear Creek are the most popular for novice mountaineers.
Several large glaciers cover the mountain top.
The best time of year is from Mid-May to Mid-July. In addition to standard hiking equipment,
climbers will want to carry crampons and a ice axe. The distance from Bunny Flat to the
summit is 7 miles with a 7000 ft elevation gain and usually will take two days. Annual pass is required.
Use Everitt Memorial Highway (Hwy A-10) northeast from the city of Mt Shasta to reach Bunny Flat.

Rafting Trinity River

The Trinity River offers excellent opportunities for expert kayaking or novice river rafters.
The most popular stretch is rated Class II or III and starts at Pigeon Point and ends at Cedar Flat.
Running parallel to highway SR-299 there are many places to start and stop your run.
Beward that after Cedar Flat, the river transforms into a very challenging Class V run.

Tour Pacific Crest Trail PCT
The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is the jewel in the crown of America’s scenic trails, spanning 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada.
Hikers cross the beauty of the desert, glaciated expanses of the Sierra Nevada,
and provides commanding vistas of volcanic peaks and glaciers in the Cascade Range.
The trail also passes through historic mining sites and evidence of human’s endless quest
for natural resources.
