Loveland Reservoir, near Alpine, has a capacity of 25,400 acre feet. Its dam is 203 feet high and 765 feet wide, and was completed in 1945. Loveland reservoir is owned and operated by Sweetwater Authority, a pubic water agency. They established 1997 to provide pubic fishing access along a five-mile portion of the shoreline. Fishing access is limited to posted areas between sunrise and sunset only.

Pine Creek Wilderness
Location: South of Highway I-8 south to Japatul Ranger Station. NFS Website;
The Pine Creek Wilderness is a gently sloping area ranging from 2,000 feet elevation in the south to 4,000 feet in the north. Vegetation is mostly chamise chaparral and scrub oak with riparian and oak woodland vegetation in stream bottoms and benches. Rainbow and bass are found in Pine Creek. Several trails provide access to the area.

600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the largest state park in the contiguous United States and voted the #1 state park in California by National Geographic. This area was first traversed by Spanish explorer Juan Batiste de Anza in 1774. Visitors can traverse canyons full of desert palms, ancient pictographs, majestic cactus and early spring wildflowers.
