Sports Events
California Half Ironman Triathlon - 1st Saturday in April. 2400 athletes power
through 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run through Oceanside Harbor and Camp Pendleton. Ironman Expo
follows after the race.
Oceanside Pier
One of the longest piers on the west coast -
very popular for fishing and there is a Ruby's Restaurant on the end.
At the base of the pier is a bandshell which is the site of special concert events.
Camp Pendleton USMC
The largest amphibious training facility in the nation, Camp Pendleton
covers 17 miles of Pacific coastline north of Oceanside. It is home to 35,000 active duty
Marines and their dependents of the U.S. 1st Marine Division and related units. Visitors
may tour during daylight hours - enter thru the Main Gate off the I-5 Freeway.
While many military bases share one or more of Camp Pendleton's training features,
none match its broad spectrum. Camp Pendleton has a population of nearly 40,000
Marines and Sailors and provides a variety of services and recreational activities.
California Coastal National Monument
Established in 2000, the CCNM runs the entire length of the California coast
and encompasses thousands of BLM administered islands, rocks, exposed reefs,
and pinnacles above mean high tide. These provide forage and breeding grounds for
significant populations of coastal birds and sea mammals.
California Surf Museum - Downtown Oceanside
Founded in February 1986 - the California Surf Museum presents standing displays of surfing equipment and photographs.
Every six months it introduces a new feature exhibit highlighting one of the pioneering legends
of the surfing world. The museum also retails surfing-related merchandise.
Oceanside Museum of Art - OMA - Downtown Oceanside
A cultural jewel located in downtown Oceanside in an historic Irving Gill designed building.
