    Agua Tibia Wilderness
    15,934, wilderness area created in 1975 in the Northern portion of the Palomar Ranger District. This mountainous area is cut by many deep canyons containing only intermittent streams with chaparral, oak woodlands and some coniferous forests at the higher elevations. Elevation ranges from 1,700 feet in the canyon bottoms to the 5,077 foot Eagle Crag Peak at the southeast corner. Small pools of water in the canyon bottoms become warm in summer months and thus the name Agua Tibia—Spanish for warm water. Late autumn through springs is a popular time to explore several major trailheads leading off from Dripping Springs Campground.

    The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is the jewel in the crown of America’s scenic trails, spanning 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. Hikers cross the beauty of the desert, glaciated expanses of the Sierra Nevada, and provides commanding vistas of volcanic peaks and glaciers in the Cascade Range. The trail also passes through historic mining sites and evidence of human’s endless quest for natural resources.

    Cleveland NF is divided into three ranger districts:

    Trabuco Forest District - North
    Palomar Forest District - Central
    Descanso Forest District - South

    Tour Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
    600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the largest state park in the contiguous United States and voted the #1 state park in California by National Geographic. This area was first traversed by Spanish explorer Juan Batiste de Anza in 1774. Visitors can traverse canyons full of desert palms, ancient pictographs, majestic cactus and early spring wildflowers.

    Salton Sea State Recreation Area
    Located along the northeastern shore of the Salton Sea since 1955 and offering an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities. Salton Sea boasts great fishing - game includes croaker, corvina and tilapia.

    Heber Dunes State Vehicle Recr Area - Heber CA
    343 acres area located south of El Centro. It is primarily used for off-road recreation, however, camping, picnicking, and baseball are also popular activities in the park.

    Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recr Area - East Borrego
    42,000 acres of desert terrain, from below sea level to 400 foot elevations. It is a motorcycle, four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle, and dune buggy use area. The wash-and-ridge terrain includes a butte with dunes and a sand bowl, a blow-sand dune, springs and a camp on a former homestead site.

    Dixon Lake Recreation Area - North Escondido
    Fishing lake and campground located immediately south of Daley Ranch. Night fishing is available during the summer months. Features annual 4-day trout derby in Nov.

    Hellhole Canyon County Preserve
    1712-acre preserve with over 11 miles of hiking and equestrian trails. Explore exquisite oak woodlands, mountain creeks or sweeping hilltop panorama views. This wildlife habitat hosts mountain lion, coyote, rattlesnakes and various bird species.

    Lake Wolhford
    Fishing Lake - Permit required / boat rentals available. Bass, crappie, trout, catfish and bluegill.


    Carlsbad Sheraton Resort Hotel
