Poway (pop: 48,000) is a residential, business and agricultural community settled in the late 1800's and a city incorporated in 1980. Early boulder pictographs depict the presense of Paquay indians as early as the 1500's.

Lake Poway offers a fish cleaning station and restroom facilities. Bait, tackle, State Fishing licenses, lake permits and delicious food items and refreshments are available at the Lake Poway Concession.

The canyon contains one of the densest stands of poison oak around, which provides beautiful late summer and early fall color. Although this is not a problem to anyone who stays on the wide dirt roads, children and pets must be supervised to prevent them from coming in contact with the plants.

San Diego Wild Animal Park
The San Diego Wild Animal Park comprises 1,800 acres located five miles east of Escondido. It was started as a breeding facility for the San Diego Zoo's larger mammals. Today there are over 2,500 animals here and also 250 species of exotic plants.
