Ramona Rodeo Days [MAY]

The Ramona Roundup Rodeo is four days of fun for kids of all ages. This year's Rodeo features Dancing Friday and Saturday nights, Lawn Mower Races and Kid's Day at the Rodeo. Roughstock events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding a contestant's score is equally dependent upon his performance and the animal's performance. For Timed events, cowboys and cowgirls compete in steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing and steer roping.

Julian Grape Stomp Early Sep
Visitors celebrate the harvest of the grapes with a real, olde-world style grape stomp and festa at the Menghini Winery. The festa draws approximately 1800 people each year.

Julian Bluegrass Festival [mid-Sept]
Annual event started in 1971, this is the oldest Bluegrass Festival in California. Many of the finest bluegrass artists today started on this stage in contests and in performances.

San Diego Wild Animal Park
The San Diego Wild Animal Park comprises 1,800 acres located five miles east of Escondido. It was started as a breeding facility for the San Diego Zoo's larger mammals. Today there are over 2,500 animals here and also 250 species of exotic plants.

County operated picnic grounds and campground named for two nearby peaks that are easily accessible by a good hike. This park features abundant oaks and mountain terrain. Local inhabitants include coyote, fox, possum, skunk, and raccoon and a large number of birds including great blue herons, great egrets, and several species of ducks can be found on the pond.

4,000 foot runway built in 1943 by the Navy as an emergency landing facility. In 1958 the airport became home to the California Division of Forestry's (CDF) and U.S. Forest Service's "Air Attack Base".
