Sacramento California Temple
The 123rd operating temple of the LDS Church features a classic-modern, single-spire design built with a light gray granite exterior on a site just outside Sacramento overlooking Lake Natoma. The 47-acre hilltop property is surrounded by majestic oak trees with scenic views of the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains.

Murphy Family and the Donner Party

The ill-fated Donner Party of 1846 traveled west across America one year ahead of Brigham Young and the main Mormon exodus to Utah. Many church members attempted other enterprising ways to make their west. One was Lovinia Murphy and her children.

Lovinia hired on as laundress with the ill-fated Donner Party. She and two of her sons died with many others at Emmigrant Pass. They were survived by four daughters, one of whom is named Mary, the namesake of Marysville California. It is not known if any of the children maintained any affiliation with the church afterwards.

Early California Population Project [ECPP]

A collections-based research and educational institution established in 1919 by Henry E. and Arabella Huntington. ECPP provides public access to all the information contained in California's historic mission registers. Records include baptism, marriage and burial records for each of the California missions. Records include information on Indians, soldiers, and settlers of Alta California from 1769-1850.
