Dana Point (pop: 35,110) has one of the few harbors for South Orange County

Mission San Juan Capistrano
Mission San Juan Capistrano is the seventh mission founded November 1, 1776, by early Franciscan priests.
Today it is a monument to California’s multicultural history, embracing its Native American, Spanish, Mexican and European heritage.
Originally built as a self sufficient community by Spanish padres and Indians, the Mission was a center for agriculture, industry, education and religion.

During the peak of whale migration season, 40 – 50 whales pass by Dana Point each day,
using the Dana Point Headland’s 200-foot cliffs near the harbor as a landmark to check their migration path.

The Tall Ships Festival begins with a parade of Tall Ships entering Dana Point Harbor.
Good views of the parade can be seen from the breakwater and the Dana Point Marine Life Refuge.
Tours of the Tall Ships and displays end at 5:00 each day but visitors are encouraged to watch the ships from shore
as they participate in cannon battles just out side the harbor both Saturday and Sunday.
Event includes sea chantey story-telling, art show and pirate camp.

It is the oldest remaining residential street in California, Los Rios dates back to 1794
when about 40 adobe structures were constructed to house soldiers and workers overseeing construction of the Mission.
