    Mission San Juan Capistrano
    Mission San Juan Capistrano is the seventh mission founded November 1, 1776, by early Franciscan priests. Today it is a monument to California’s multicultural history, embracing its Native American, Spanish, Mexican and European heritage. Originally built as a self sufficient community by Spanish padres and Indians, the Mission was a center for agriculture, industry, education and religion.

    Nationally known for its hands-on marine science, environmental education and maritime history programs. More than 110,000 K-12 students and 8,000 teachers annually participate in the Institute's 61 award-winning, immersion style programs. To learn about oceanography, science, and California history, students voyage onto the ocean, study in labs and live aboard tall ships or in the chaparral, where they can feel and taste the salty sea spray, sort through live specimens, observe migrating whales, collect scientific data and investigate the culture and world around them.

    During the peak of whale migration season, 40 – 50 whales pass by Dana Point each day, using the Dana Point Headland’s 200-foot cliffs near the harbor as a landmark to check their migration path.

Historic Los Rios District
Location: Ortega Highway (SR-74) just west of I-5 Freeway near SJC Mission.
It is the oldest remaining residential street in California, Los Rios dates back to 1794 when about 40 adobe structures were constructed to house soldiers and workers overseeing construction of the Mission. The district's quaint cottages and 200-year-old adobes are nestled in willows, bougainvillea and cactus.

    Shorecliffs Golf Course - San Clemente CA
    Opened in 1964, this 18-hole public golf course features 6,140 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 70.4 and it has a slope rating of 130.

    Doheny State Beach - Dana Point CA
    Doheny State Beach is two parks in one - with camping in the southern area (with some campsites only steps away from the beach) and day use in the northern area, where there is a five-acre lawn with picnic facilities and volleyball courts. Surfing is popular, but is restricted to the north end of the beach. Surf fishing is also popular.

    Monarch Beach Golf Links - Dana Point
    This par-70 course with four sets of tees across 6601 yards features breathtaking views of the California coastline and Pacific Ocean. Here, along the dramatic bluffs of Southern California, master architect, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., has fashioned an intriguing layout in the Scottish links tradition on one of the select few oceanfront golf courses in California.

    18 acre public beach that is popular for surfing is located on the westside of Dana Point. It consists of landscaped parking facility, sandy beaches, rocky promontories, and sheer cliffs. A small, offshore reef creates some of the best left swells along the entire coastline. Swimming, body surfing, sunbathing and tidepool exploration (all tidepool inhabitants are protected) are other beach activities.
