San Onofre State Beach

Featuring 3.5 miles of sandy beaches, this place includes the blufftop San Mateo campground and the very famous surf spot, Trestles Beach.

San Onofre S.B. (est 1971) is one of most popular state parks, receiving over 2.4 million visitors per year. Tourists include swimmers, campers, kayakers, birders, fishermen, off-duty Marines, bicyclists, sunbathers, and surfers. Whales, dolphins and sea lions can be seen offshore from time to time.

The campground is along the old U.S. Route 101 adjacent to the sandstone bluffs. The beach is popular with swimmers and surfers. San Onofre includes San Onofre Surf Beach, a day use facility; San Mateo campground and day use facility; and a nature trail that starts at San Mateo Canyon and leads to San Mateo State Preserve/Trestles Beach.

San Clemente State Beach
Popular with surfers, this one-mile long beach strip also offers skin diving, swimming, body surfing and scenic bluff top nature hike trails. A dramatic setting and invigorating air satisfy its many visitors, whatever their interest, energy level or state of mind.

San Clemente Municipal Golf Course
Championship 18 hole golf course where Fridays are still weekdays, walkers are still welcome and juniors are always ½ price. Owned and operated by the City of San Clemente, the course is located approximately one mile from the Pacific Ocean and features ocean views from a number of holes.

San Clemente Comfort Suites Resort

San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station SONGS

Located adjacent to San Onofre S.B. This facilities produces about 20% of the total electric power needs of Southern California. Unit 1 is no longer in service. This reactor was a first generation Westinghouse pressurized water reactor that operated for 25 years, closing permanently in 1992. Units 2 and 3, Combustion Engineering pressurized water reactors, continue to operate and generate 1,172 MWe and 1,178 MWe respectively. The plant is operated by Southern California Edison.

Camp Pendleton USMC
The largest amphibious training facility in the nation, Camp Pendleton covers 17 miles of Pacific coastline north of Oceanside. It is home to 35,000 active duty Marines and their dependents of the U.S. 1st Marine Division and related units. Visitors may tour during daylight hours - enter thru the Main Gate off the I-5 Freeway.

While many military bases share one or more of Camp Pendleton's training features, none match its broad spectrum. Camp Pendleton has a population of nearly 40,000 Marines and Sailors and provides a variety of services and recreational activities.
