Crescent City (pop: 4000) was founded in 1853 as gold-mining supply center. Today its harbor is home to a small fishing industry and the town serves as base for adventures into the nearby Redwood Forests. Crescent City is minutes to the worlds tallest Redwood trees, the famous Drive Through Tree, Redwood National Park, Ocean World, and Trees of Mystery. Whale, seal and bird watching. Visit the world famous Redwood groves containing the largest redwoods. Enjoy fantastic ocean scenery, explore tide pools, go beachcombing. Jet boating on the famous Klamath River Ocean, river and lake fishing. Visit the Battery Point Lighthouse Museum. Many restaurants are within walking distance. Only 3 miles to the Elk Valley Casino.
Crescent City became the county seat of Del Norte County when the county was formed in 1857. Originally miners comprised many of the inhabitants. Mining activity in the region quickly waned and was replaced by logging and fishing industries in the early 20th century, which have also recently experienced decline. In the 1990s, Pelican Bay State Prison was built and was then joined with the city.
Experience a unique escape at this Crescent City hotel located in the heart of the area's redwood forests and across from the Pacific Ocean at the Northwoods Inn. This California Best Western Resort is located near some of the most scenic areas. Enjoy nicely appointed room features with all the right amenities along including free high-speed Internet access. .
