California Whale Watching Tours : Jan-Mar
From January through March, some 28,000 Pacific Gray Whales make their annual migration up along
the coast to their summer Alaska feeding grounds. During the summer Blue and Humpback Whales also
come to visit the local waters delighting visitors with upclose encounters.

Annual event since 1999 - features birding, nature and Indian cultural experiences that you
will want to remember. Our birding, nature, and heritage celebration offers 80 events,
workshops, and guided excursions into the wildness of our globally outstanding natural areas:
Redwood National and State Parks, the Smith River National Recreation Area, Castle Rock
Wildlife Refuge, Tolowa Dunes State Park, and the Lake Earl Wildlife Area, and Lake Earl
Coastal Lagoon.
Watch at sunrise as tens of thousands of Aleutian Canada Geese rise from their offshore island resting place
— to fill the sky with voice and wing as they move to feed in nearby mainland pastures.
This event commemorates a successful endangered species recovery program.

Klamath Salmon Festival - Late Aug
An annual event since 1963 held in the village of Klamath, just south of Crescent City.
Events include environmental presentations, salmon BBQ, cultural workshops, parade,
veterans breakfast, softball tournament and more.

1,700,000-acres federal forest reserve in Siskiyou County (CA) and Jackson County (OR).
In the lower elevations, you'll find park-like stands of Ponderosa Pine trees, while in the
higher elevations, the Douglas fir, sub-alpine fir and mixed conifer stands beg to be explored.
With mountain rivers meandering from one end of the Forest to the other, recreationists have found a
