Because of its location southwest of the Laguna Mountains, this 3,250 acre park shows characteristics of desert,
coastal, and mountain habitats. This chaparral woodland is home to a variety of animals. Bald eagles,
mountain lions, rattlesnakes, and many migratory waterfowl can be observed in the remote wilderness.
The big feature is Morena Reservoir, which is popular for boating, fishing and other watersports.
The lake is the highest (3000 feet) and most remote of the city's reservoirs.
Trout fishing is excellent in winter, and bass start biting in spring.
In addition to these natural attributes, the newly renovated park features some of the most modern camping facilities
in San Diego County. Hikers will want to explore the
Pacific Crest Trail,
which passes through the park on its way to Canada.
Potrero County Park - Tecate CA
At 2300 ft elevation, Potrero is a camping and recreation park.
Much of the 115-acre park consists of picnic areas. Visitors can also enjoy ball fields, a dance pavilion, playgrounds, and hiking trails.
grassy meadow and rocky hillsides provide quiet solitude for hikers and campers, and picnickers will enjoy the shade of hundred-year-old oak trees.
Rare predators such as mountain lions and bobcats are seen occasionally. Some of the more conspicuous animal residents include mule deer, coyotes, raccoons, striped and spotted skunks, and brush rabbits.
