Old Town San Diego State Historic Park
Old Town San Diego State Historic Park recreates life in the Mexican and early American periods of 1821 to 1872. Five original adobes are part of the complex, which includes shops, restaurants and a museum. La Casa de Estudillo is a mansion built around a garden courtyard. Several of San Diego's original buildings are located here. Presidio Park (located closeby) is the site of California's first mission and military fortress (1769).

First of the 21 missions and known as the Mother of the Missions, Mission San Diego de Alcala was founded on July 16, 1769 by Blessed Junipero Serra. It was designated as a Minor Basilica in 1976 by Pope Paul VI. The Mission today is an active Catholic Parish in the Diocese of San Diego.

St Thomas Indian Mission
San Diego's Eastern Most Parish

The original mission, Puerto de la Purísima Concepción, was completed in early 1781 but destroyed in an indian raid later that year and abandoned. The US military operated an outpost here, Fort Yuma (1849-1885). The current Catholic parish church of St Thomas was dedicated in 1923.

Mission San Luis Rey de Francia - Oceanside CA

Known as the "King of Missions" - Mission San Luis Rey is the largest of the California missions and a national landmark. Franciscan friars at the mission conduct regular tours. This church still holds regular worship services and hosts special functions during the week.

Founded in 1816 as an "asistencia" (sub-mission) to the Mission San Luis Rey. Visitors see the same stone floor, roof tiles, and adobe walls that were put in place more than 180 years ago.

Adobe Chapel of the Immaculate Conception - Old Town
The feast of the Immaculate Conception was the biggest celebration during the historic period of old San Diego; it honors the patroness of the port and the city of San Diego. The original festivities began in 1858 and continued to 1919 and were centered on this Chapel, where the statue of the Immaculate Conception, originally from the Presidio Chapel, was displayed.
