Historic beach front site contains much of the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, an important wildlife habitat.
The salt and freshwater marshes give refuge to migrating waterfowl and resident wading birds, such as black-necked stilt, avocet, teal,
American widgeon and pelican. The park offers hiking, horse trails, surf fishing and birding.
In 1848, the Mexican-American border commission started here to survey and mark the new international border.

This beautiful 1051 acre wetland where the Tijuana River meets the sea is southern California's only coastal lagoon not bisected by roads and rail lines.

Silver Strand State Beach
Following along the isthmus connecting Coronado Island to Imperial Beach with extensive beachfront facilities
on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay. Combined with the area’s mild climate, the beaches make Silver Strand
one of the area’s finest recreation destinations. Camping, fishing, swimming, surfing, boating, water-skiing, volleyball, and
picnicking are popular activities. Anglers can fish for perch, corbina, grunion and yellow-fin croaker.
NSW SuperFrog Triathlon - Coronado [APR]

Annual Event since 1979 and held in conjuction with Naval Special Warfare Base at Coronado. If you want to know what
it feels like to train with US Navy Seals try racing 1.2 miles in brisk ocean waters, a flat and fast 56 mile bike ride
and a half marathon run done mostly through the sand.
Crown Cove Aquatic Center
Southwestern College watersports facility located between the city of Imperial Beach and the city of Coronado
in the Silver Strand State Beach, it provides a wide range of educational and
recreational activities to the surrounding communities. The primary focus is to promote boating and water safety programs with the vision to expand to other
boating sites in the area.

This 1638-acre park offers a diverse array of habitats that enhance visitors' experiences -- from dense riparian forests along the Tijuana River to coastal maritime sage scrub on top of Spooner's Mesa.
Visitors may hike or ride a horse along miles of trails, or bring your binoculars to see birds in one of the best bird watching spots in the county.
Another popular feature of the park is the Community Garden at Hollister and Sunset, which provides area residents a place to exercise their green thumbs.
