Jacumba (pop 600) is a small town located in the rural southeast portion of San Diego County. Nearby towns include Boulevard, Cameron Corners, Potrero, Tecate, Dulzura, Campo, Pine Valley, Mount Laguna, Descanso, and Jamul. The Kumeyaay peoples occupied Jacumba and surrounding areas prior to European incursion. By 1900, the health and relaxation benefits of nearby natural hot springs became popular.

Tour Cleveland National Forest

Southern most of protected forest lands in California includes 430,000 acres of San Diego, Orange and Riverside divided into three distinct areas. Comprises of conifer woodlands and chaparral. The Kumeyaay, Luiseņos, Cahuilla and Cupeņo found a good living on the abundant acorns and game. Many of our trails today follow those routes first used by these early dwellers. The popular driving loop to see the best of Cleveland N.F. is to follow Sunrise Highway (County Hwy-S1) up past Mount Laguna.

Desert View Tower - In-Ko-Pah

The 70-foot stone lookout tower landmark built 1922-28. It is surrounded by Boulder Park - a jumble of Depression-era folk art rock carvings with decorative weathered rock, caves and precipices that is popular for little kids.

SDSU School of Astronomy - Considered one of the finest observing locations in the continental U.S., now with four telescopes at their disposal, the faculty and students of the astronomy department are endowed with a superbly equipped facility located in an outstanding site.

Anza Borrego Desert State Park
600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the largest state park in the contiguous United States and voted the #1 state park in California by National Geographic. Another 100 years would pass before the first settlers would come to stay and inhabit this area. Visitors can traverse canyons full of desert palms, ancient pictographs, majestic cactus and early spring wildflowers.

San Diego Railroad Museum - Campo CA
Large collection of vintage locomotives and railcars. Public tours of work shops available. Train rides run twice a day on Sat/Sun (and some holidays) departing at noon and 2:30PM on a 16-mile loop pulled by a vintage diesel or steam locomotive. Once or twice a month a special 3-hour excursion runs to Tecate, Mexico.
