Mission Bay Park, located midway between Downtown San Diego and La Jolla, is the largest man-made aquatic park in America.
It consists of 4,235 acres and has over 15 million visitors annually.
Mission Bay features nearly 27 miles of shoreline, 19 of which are soft, sandy beaches with swimming areas.
The many children's playgrounds and hiking and biking trails are also popular.
Some areas in the park allow dogs to be on leashes and other areas such as Fiesta Island are leash free.
The bay is home to several large boat marinas with related facilities include boat and kayak rentals.
Mission Bay Park hosts a number of professional events including volleyball, softball, basketball.
and motorboat racing with free admission to the public.
History of Mission Bay
First discovered and named “False Bay” by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542, where historically, the San Diego River has shifted its terminus between here
and the San Diego Bay to the south. In the 1940's throught 1960's, the City of San Diego developed these tidelands into a public recreation and boating area.

Tour Sea World San Diego

The annual Christmas Parade of Lights features over 100 distinctly decorated boats in an evening parade around the bay.
This unique California tradition is followed by fireworks. Parade starts from Quivira Basin.
San Diego Over The Line Tournament - July
Since 1953 this very popular summer entertainment features a form of softball, limited to 1,200 teams of three persons each,
playing almost 2,400 games in two weekends with 52,000 expected to attend.
San Diego Youth Aquatic Center
Located on Fiesta Island, this youth watersports and marine biology camp facility is home to a boy scout camp, SeaCamp oceanography youth club
and San Diego's Kayak Team. It is adjacent to Enchanted Cove which is a popular for non-motor based watersports such as Kite Surfing,
Small Sailboats, Boardsailing and Kayaking.
Model Yacht Pond
Located just south of the Paradise Point Resort, this pond is used to host sailing races for both
power and sail model boats. The adjacent lawns are popular for picnics.
San Diego Argonauts - model boat club meets monthly at the pond.
Vacation Isle Parks
Two great grassy parks with sandy beaches, picnic tables, fire rings and restrooms.
Vacation Isle East is located east of the Model Yacht Pond while Vacation Isle West is located to the west of the pond.
Ski Beach
Located on east side of Vacation Isle off of Ingraham St, this beach has a large grassy area, a picnic shelter with picnic tables, fire rings and a jogging path.
There is a boat launch and ski area on the south side, but no swimming is allowed. There is also a childrens playground adjacent to the picnic shelter.
Hospitality Point
Located on the south jetty ocean entrance to Mission Bay Park, is this large grassy park with great views of Mission Bay, the San Diego River
and out towards the ocean. There are picnic tables, a picnic shelter, fire rings, and a path for jogging or bike riding.
Quivira Basin

A beautiful waterfront setting for your special day - weddings, banquets, receptions, etc. The marina hosts 634 boat slips with quick access to the Pacific Ocean,
bait barge, utility hookups, etc.
