Tour Balboa Park San Diego

Over 1400 acres of beautiful gardens, grassy picnic area and groves of exotic palm and eucalyptus trees - Balboa Park is home to some of the funnest museums and other attractions of San Diego.

    Mission Bay Park, located midway between Downtown San Diego and La Jolla, is the largest man-made aquatic park in America. It consists of 4,235 acres and has over 15 million visitors annually.

    Mission Bay Aquatic Park Waterfront San Diego California Mission Bay features nearly 27 miles of shoreline, 19 of which are soft, sandy beaches with swimming areas. The many children's playgrounds and hiking and biking trails are also popular. Some areas in the park allow dogs to be on leashes and other areas such as Fiesta Island are leash free.

    Mission Bay boasts 27 miles of shoreline, 19 of which are soft, sandy beaches with eight locations designated as official swimming areas. Mission Bay offers boat docks and launching facilities, sailboat and motor rentals, bike/walk paths, basketball courts, and playgrounds for children.

    • Bike paths - 14 miles of bike trails circle the Mission Bay area.
    • Dog Walk - Some areas in Mission Bay Park allow dogs to be on leashes and other areas such as Fiesta Island are leash free.
    • Fishing - permitted in all areas of Mission Bay, except in areas designated for swimming, water skiing and personal water craft use. Fishing is also not allowed from any bridge.

    Parklands at Mission Bay
    A number of grassy picnic and play parks and beaches line the shores of Mission Bay. See Park Ranger Permit Center for permits to host large groups.
    Bonita Cove - near South Mission Beach - a large playground with a tot lot and there is access to the water with a lifeguard on duty.
    Crown Point - north shore area - This large grassy park near the bay has fire rings, picnic tables, and barbeque grills. There is also a boat launch and basketball courts.
    De Anza Cove - 3000 E Mission Dr - Swimming, boating and water skiing are allowed and there is a lifeguard on duty for the summer months.
    Mariner’s Point - Bonita Cove - he tip of Mariner’s Point is a Least Tern nesting area.
    Mission Point - far south end of Mission Blvd - playground, picnic tables, park benches, fire rings and a path for jogging or bike riding.
    Playa Cove - East Shore - swimming area, basketball courts and picnic areas.
    South Shores Park - South Shore - mainly a small park for boating purposes with a boat ramp and RV Dump.
    Sunset Pointe - Dana Basin -
    Tecolate Shores - East Shore - this swim area includes a playground, picnic tables, barbeque grills, fire rings and a path for jogging
    Ventura Cove - 1100 W Mission Bay Dr - swim and picnic area

    Mission Bay Wildlife Refuges
    An opportunity to study nature:
    Tecolote Creek - This Northshore area is home to many species of ducks, loons, coots and other waterfowl.
    Fiesta Island - The mudflats provide habitat for various shorebirds and a large California least tern protected nesting site is at the northern tip of the island.
    Southern Wildlife Preserve - a resting and feeding spot for over one hundred species of birds migrating along the Pacific Flyway.
    Famosa Slough - a remnant of the once extensive Mission Bay Wetland with vegetation ranges from saltwater to freshwater marsh species.
    Mariner's Point - Mariner's Point is home to the smallest tern species, the least tern, nesting in patches of fairly flat sandy ground with little or no vegetation.
    Perez Cove -is one of the nesting sites of the great blue heron in the area San Diego County. These enormous long-legged, long-necked birds are fun to look for.
    Kendall-Frost Reserve - Two endangered species depend entirely on this marsh: the light-footed clapper rail and the Belding's savannah sparrow.
