Tour Tecate CA
Tecate is an unincorporated rural community directly adjacent to the Mexican city of Tecate.
The area is best known for its relatively uncrowded border crossing between the United States and Mexico, and nearby Tecate Peak.
Mount Laguna consists of a small general store, rustic lodge and cabins, local restaurant,
rural post office, and campgrounds adjacent to the Pacific Crest Trail.
The Laguna Mountain Recreation Area surrounds the village, and the visitor's center
for the pine-covered area is located here.
Tour Cleveland National Forest
Southern most of protected forest lands in California includes 430,000
acres of San Diego, Orange and Riverside divided into three distinct
areas. Comprises of conifer woodlands and chaparral.
The Kumeyaay, Luiseños, Cahuilla and Cupeño found a good living on the abundant acorns and game.
Many of our trails today follow those routes first used by these early dwellers.
The popular driving loop to see the best of Cleveland N.F. is to
follow Sunrise Highway (County Hwy-S1) up past Mount Laguna.
Anza Borrego Desert State Park
600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the
largest state park in the contiguous United States and voted the
#1 state park in California by National Geographic. Another
100 years would pass before the first settlers would come to stay and
inhabit this area.
Visitors can traverse canyons full of desert palms, ancient pictographs,
majestic cactus and early spring wildflowers.

Mount Laguna Observatory (MLO) opened in 1968 and is operated by the SDSU Department of Astronomy.
MLO is located 45 miles east of downtown San Diego at a dark site in the Cleveland N.F. at an altitude of 6100 feet.
Major research instruments are: the 40-inch reflector with UIUC, the 40-inch ULTRA reflector with KU,
and the Clifford Smith 24-inch reflector. This location is remote enough the sky glow from
San Diego is minimal.

Mt Laguna Air Force Station - Decommissioned
Mt. Laguna boasts a decommissioned Air Force base, just off Sunrise Highway past the 6000-foot sign.
It was a DEW (defense early warning) site, watching for incoming missiles, and housed about 170 people until it was downsized in 1981.
Now it is a multi-use satellite and radar communications site, operated primarily by the FAA, out of Los Angeles Center.
