It is bordered by the Otay River Valley and the city of Chula Vista on the north, Interstate 805 on the west, and county land on the east.
Some of the earliest flights in U.S. history occurred in the vicinity of Otay Mesa through the experimentation of aviation pioneer John J. Montgomery.
The Otay Mesa Port of Entry is one of two border international border crossings to Mexico from San Diego.
