    San Diego Chargers - NFL [AUG-JAN]
    The Chargers were one of the original eight teams of the AFL founded in 1960. In the years since then, the Chargers have made seven trips to the playoffs and three appearances in the AFC Championship game. At the end of the 1994 season, the Chargers faced the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX and fell 49-26.

    US Olympic Training Center - Chula Vista
    2800 Olympic Parkway, Chula Vista, CA 91915-6000; 619-656-1500; Center Website;
    150-acre complex adjacent to Lower Otay Lake in San Diego County. The center has sport venues and support facilities for nine Olympic sports: archery, canoe/kayak, cycling, field hockey, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, and track & field. This year-round warm weather facility is the first such project designed from the ground up to serve aspiring American Olympic athelets.

    MWR Department operates all NBC recreational and athletic facilities including golf course, bowling alleys, swimming pools, sports and fitness centers, dining facilities, theater and hobby shops.

    Mission Bay Park
    Mission Bay Park, located midway between Downtown San Diego and La Jolla, is the largest man-made aquatic park in America. Recreational activities includes hiking and biking trails, playgrounds and swimming beaches. The bay is home to several large boat marinas with related facilities. Mission Bay Park hosts a number of professional events including volleyball, softball and motorboat racing.

    Del Mar Racetrack & Fairgrounds
    The racetrack was famous for years as a favorite hangout for many Hollywood celebrities including Bing Crosby and Jimmy Durante. Race Season runs from Late July to Early Sept annually. The Del Mar Fairgrounds was started in 1936 as a WPA project. Today it covers 360 acres and hosts more than 1 million visitors annually. The county fair held each summer has a wide range of food, rides and entertainment.

    San Diego Automotive Museum
    Located at Balboa Park, this museum is a showcase for over 80 classic and historically significant vehicles. Exhibits range from horse carriages to 50's favorites, muscle cars and motorcycles. Several futuristic inovactive designs also on display. Email about upcoming special exhibits.

    Coronado Tennis Center

    San Diego Holiday Bowl [LATE DEC]

    Major collegiate football championship game played in San Diego in late December. Tickets go on sale in November and sellout quickly. A number of high profile events during the year preceed this bowl game. Intercollegiate Championship Football Game played at Qualcomm Stadium one evening in the last week of December. For over 25 years the Holiday Bowl features the Pacific-10 Conference runner-up against the third selection from the Big 12 Conference.

    San Diego Poinsettia Bowl [LATE DEC]

    Annual football game started in 2005 by the San Diego Bowl Game Association. The game is proceeded by special events at the Zoo, Sea World and USS Midway featuring the opposing teams and other celebrities.

    Municipal Gymnasium - Balboa Park
    Built for the 1935 Exposition as the "Palace of Electricity" and Varied Industries" the architecture reflects a close relationship between ancient Maya and 20th Century ornamentation and its progression. Today it hosts regular youth basketball and cheerleading programs and summer youth sports camps and open play adult basketball, leagues and tournaments.

    Balboa Stadium Sports Arena
    The orginal stadium was built in Balboa Park in 1915, but leveled in 1979 because it did not meet earthquake standards. For many years it hosted the San Diego Chargers. Today's rebuilt stadium hosts many community sports venues.

    Morley Field Sports Complex
    Facilities include twelve tennis courts, a swimming pool, a senior center, a tiny tots play area, group picnic areas, an archery range, a multi purpose ball field, a velodrome (bicycle track), boccie courts, a disc golf course, a fitness parcourse, petanque courts, Balboa Park’s Municipal Golf Course, native trails located in Florida Canyon, Golden Hill Recreation Center and Golden Hill Park. Youth sprots include tennis, swimming, hiking, biking, seasonal youth sports such as flag football, baseball, softball and soccer.
