Sonora (Pop: 4,400) is the county seat (and only city) of Tuolumne County, California. This area is part of California's gold rush heritage.

Tuolumne County (Pop: 54,500) is located in the Sierra Nevada region of California. The northern half of Yosemite National Park is located in the eastern part of the county.

Jackson Gold Mine Tours - Jackson CA
The Kennedy Mine, famous for being one of the deepest gold mines in the world (at 5912 feet), demonstrates how gold changed an entire way of life in California. On the Kennedy Gold Mine surface tour, visitors see the mine office building where gold flakes were melted into large bricks to ship by Wells Fargo to San Francisco.
