Overview - Learning Disability Intervention Models
Having a child with a significant learning disability has led my wife and myself to do some serious research on this topic.

There are a number of intervention models available for use by public and private schools to assist students challenged by learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD and Autism. However, it appears that Most Schools Use the Least Effective Model.

The various intervention models include:

• Orton-Gillingham
• Phonics
• Lindamond-Bell
• Fast Forward
• Standard QEEG Biofeedback
• Activation QEEG Neurotherapy

The Orton-Gillingham Model is used by most California School Districts but is the least effective - making it the most expensive. The program model mandates 350 sessions with a student in order to achieve anytype of significant result.

Standard QEEG and Activation QEEG achieves far better results with as few as 40 student sessions. Studies in the Winter 2004 edition of Biofeedback newsletter shows that the QEEG programs are 77 times more efficient in helping students with learning disabilities.

We encourage other parents of students with learning disabilities to contact their school district and the state board of education to further research upgrading the quality of special education programs in our state.

Biofeedback and NeuroTherapy
Neurofeedback is a simple non-painful / non-stressful / drug-free method to condition students with various learning disorders to condition certain brainwaves to optimal learning levels. This is based on years of research showing that brain function can be altered and normalized.

Chemical Assistance:
Are drugs useful in assisting students with learning and cognitive disabilities. Research suggests that most proscribed medications only mask the problem without providing any corrective assistance. Furthermore we are concerned of a conflict of interest when major drug companies taking a leading role in major support organizations that focus on this subject.

The Boys Scouts of America is a highly successful youth organization that motivates young men and women to build character by honoring their duty to self, to God and to country through outdoor activity, service, recreation and education. Cub and Troop programs are oriented for young boys only while older aged (14-20) boys and girls may participate in coed varsity and venturer programs.

California Home School Opportunities
Check local community colleges and youth groups for independent study special programs such as music ensembles, physical fitness facilities, performing arts, craftsmanship, etc. Under certain circumstances, colleges will accept youth as young as age 12 to get either high school or college credit in some course work and performing arts ensembles.
