    Today the park consists of campsites and a large day-use picnic area. Hiking, picnicking and camping are popular summer time activities, while salmon and steelhead fishing are popular in the winter.

    Largest single native grassland remaining in California. It is one of the easiest places to view surface fractures of the San Andreas Fault which traverses below the plain.

    Humboldt Redwoods State Park
    This unique environment includes the largest remaining old growth redwood forest in the world. Facilities include family camps, environmental camps, group camps, trail camps, and a horse camp. Over 100 miles of trail await exploration by hikers, bikers, and horse riders. The South Fork Eel River provides fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities.

    This Reserve features ancient sand dunes covered with centuries-old coast live oak trees. Some fine hiking trails traverse this reserve and allow visitors to observe native american settlements and local wildlife.

    Joshua Tree National Park
    Nature preserve covering over 793,000 acres of the Mojave Desert country in Eastern California. The rugged terrain is famous for the many unusual plants found here including Joshua trees, cactus, ocotillo, smoke treess, palo verdes, pinon pins, yucca plants. The best time to visit is early spring when a big array of desert wildflowers reach full bloom.

    Interactive displays focus on the ecology of the Morro Bay estuary, including building a sand dune, operating the hydrologic cycle and creating food chains. The museum was built in 1962 on a hill overlooking the Morro Bay estuary.

    Redwood National Park
    The Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) features an impressive diversity of nature. Considered as one of the most unique ecosystems on our planet where there is a serene balance between ancient coast redwood groves, gray whales, black bears, banana slugs and much more. Includes Del Norte, Jedediah Smith and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Parks. Visit the world famous Redwood groves containing the largest redwoods.

    Richardson Grove SP
    South Humboldt County

    Richardson Grove State Park is where you first encounter significant old growth redwood forest when coming north. The 9th tallest coast redwood, a fallen tree ring study conducted in 1933, and a walk-through tree are immediately available.

    San Simeon State Park
    Location: Two miles north of Cambria along Coast Highway (SR-1);
    One of the oldest units of the California State Park System famed for the coastal bluffs and promontories of the scenic park offer unobstructed views of the ocean and rocky shore. A 3.3 mile trail runs through parts of the San Simeon Natural Preserve and the Washburn Campground. Includes coastal wetlands, butterfly habitats, and native American archealogical sites.

    Tolowa Dunes State Park
    California State Park is open from sunrise to sunset year round. This park takes in some of the finest wetlands habitat on California’s northern coast. An ancient sand dune complex that has evolved into several distinct ecological communities, Tolowa Dunes encompasses ocean beach, river, open and vegetated sand dunes, wooded ridges, and wetlands. A diverse assortment of birds, animals and plant life thrive here.
